EVERY MONDAY FROM 6.30-8.00, OPEN TO CLUB MEMBERS, COACHED RIDERS & OUT OF CLUB

& REGION EXPERT RACERS​​

Open gates sessions are open to all, you do not have to attend our coaching sessions to attend these Open Monday sessions and riders from all clubs and regions are welcome.

These gates sessions are a great time to ride the track with the start gate, practice the race skills you have learned at coaching, try something new or just ride and have fun with your BMX mates.

Full face helmets, long trousers and long sleeves are essential when riding our track.

Equipment Hire
The committee have made a decision to no longer allow bikes to be hired unless the rider is Derby primary and on our coaching sessions. 

Club members can hire bikes and helmets from the clubs limited range of sizes available.

If you are new to BMX Racing or not currently a club member and you are interested in attending our BMX Racing coaching sessions please email us to express your interest before attending our sessions at club@derbybmx.com.

Parental Consent
All riders under 16s will be asked to complete the New Rider Form before attending our sessions. Please see the useful video below on what we expect riders to be able to do before attending our coaching sessions. All riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times during all of our sessions.

CLUB COACHING SESSIONS

​

Our club has a very well structured BMX Racing coaching programme and all our coaches are
British Cycling qualified and first aid trained.

​

Every Thursday night - Novice / Intermediate / Expert

Our regular coaching sessions offer coaching for under 16s only.
Sorry we do not offer beginner coaching for Adult riders.

New riders can hire bikes and helmets from the club.

​​All riders start by attending Thursday Groups and progress through the groups as assessed by our
British Cycling qualified coaches. Progress through the groups is made by Coaches assessment only.

No rider can move from group to group without confirmation from our coaches.

Please express interest in attending our BMX Racing coaching sessions, please do not just turn up for our coaching sessions as we will not be able to accommodate your rider. Please contact us in advance on club@derbybmx.com to express an interest and we will be in touch with a start date.

All riders need to be able to stand up pedal before attending our sessions, if they are not there yet feel free to ride the track when our sessions are not running and get some practice.

THURSDAYS - PLEASE NOTE GROUP NAME CHANGES (OCT 26)

Cost £6 per rider

 

Group 1 - Beginners/non-racers (Thursday)   

6-7pm Beginners and Non-racers, mixed ages. 

Non members can attend for 4 weeks before memberships is required.

 

Group 2 - Regional/National racers (Thursday)  

7-8.30pm Racing Riders - Primary Members Only

All those racing at regional level and younger riders at national level not ready for advanced yet or too young. 

 

The last half hour is optional for the younger ones.

Mixed ages including adult riders if any.

Will split by age or ability within coaching.

 

Riders attending Group 2 must do a minimum of 3 regionals and 3 winter/club races a year and regular attendance of at least twice a month.

WEDNESDAY - PLEASE NOTE GROUP NAME CHANGES (OCT 26) 

Cost £11 per rider members

Expert National Standard Riders -  Coaching with Kelvin Batey
Progression from Thursday group by invitation only.

Derby BMX Club Members only by invite - please do not attend this session without invite.

 

​From October 2026 all riders attending Expert coaching are still expected to be Derby BMX Club Paid Primary Members. Riders attending Wednesdays must be racing, and regular attendance is required or you may be asked to sacrifice your space to make way for other riders.

​

Derby Primary riders meaning (Derby BMX Club get your points at Nationals and your riders name appears on Sqorz under Derby BMX Club). 

 

Group 3 - National (Wednesday)  6-7.15

 

Group 4 - National (Wednesday) 7.15-8.30

 

Advanced Groups 3 & 4 - National level riders, must do at least 3 Nationals
a year to keep a place plus regular attendance.​​​

No rider can move from group to group without confirmation from our coaches.

RIDERS WISHING TO TRANSFER CLUBS

If your rider already races for a UK BMX Club we have an application process in place.

Please email the club in the first instance on club@derbybmx.com or message through the Facebook page.

Upon receiving your message we will ask you to complete a form accessible here.

Please complete this and await our response.
 

Can we ask that all applications to transfer are made through the clubs official channels and not direct with any members of our committee.​​​
